Paola Besana (1935-2021) was one of the most important contemporary weavers. Her collections are the result of some 60 years of research, travel and gifts; they consist mainly of textiles, weavings, and in general tools related to the world of textiles, but also curious objects, household utensils and mementos. Paola Besana used to say that ‘collecting is like taking notes’ to remember, reflect, reason and plan something new. Her collection is certainly one of the most important on textiles in the world in terms of variety.
We started a work (which is still ongoing) of cataloguing her collections through the interviews with Paola Besana, her documents and her knowledge.
